A Chest Infection, 13 Bin Bags, and a Budgie
Feb 14, 2026
Rock Bottom, New Foundations, and the Astrology of a New Era
When I was 24, my entire life fitted into 13 bin bags, and I had my budgie.
I was living in a town I did not like, in a shared house that did not feel safe or supportive.
I did not have much money. I did not have a car. I was not well.
I wasn't living. I was existing.
The office I worked in had relocated to a different town, so I moved with it. I told myself it would be fine. It wasn't. The area did not feel good to me. The house share was not great. I went to work, came home, and tried to get through each week. I kept getting ill. I was scraping by.
Then, after just a year, I was made redundant.
And that was it. The fragile structure I had built collapsed.
My auntie and uncle up north quietly “connived” with my auntie and uncle in Shropshire. They decided enough was enough. My grandad collected me and drove me down to Shropshire with my 13 bin bags and my budgie.
I remember sitting in the passenger seat, feeling utterly rotten, half folded over the budgie’s cage on my knee, trying not to cough. That little bird and those black bin bags were everything I owned.
That was my rock bottom.
When we arrived, my auntie and uncle welcomed me in without drama. The bin bags were stacked in the hallway.

I was shown to my bedroom. The doctor came. I was diagnosed with a severe chest infection and put on antibiotics. I was in bed for two weeks.
That is how unwell I was.
My cousins would quietly peer around the door at this strange new cousin who had suddenly appeared in their house. I bonded deeply with my younger cousin Sarah. We still have a beautiful relationship all these years later.
What I didn't realise then was that this moment, which felt like collapse, was actually the laying of a new foundation.
My auntie drove me to job interviews.
My uncle knew someone who could help me secure a mortgage.
I bought one cousin’s car.
I bought another cousin’s house.
And I am still in Shropshire now, forty years later.
The life I built from that moment is steady, rooted, and real. That foundation of love and practical support changed my trajectory completely.
Why am I telling you this?
Because we forget.
๐ป We forget how far we have come.
๐ป We forget what we have survived.
๐ป We forget that there were moments when we truly did not know how we would move forward.
From 13 bin bags, a chest infection, and a budgie to a life of depth, healing work, purpose, and alignment.
That did not happen in a straight line. There have been other burnouts, low points, and initiations. But that early collapse was profound. It stripped everything back to the essentials.
And sometimes that is exactly what life is doing.
๐ป Life moves in cycles.
๐ป Astrology moves in cycles.
๐ป Human energy moves in cycles.
Foundations that are built on survival, fear, or simply “getting by” cannot hold forever.
And when they fall, it feels brutal.
When you are in it, you do not want to hear about joy.
๐ป You don't want to hear that “this is happening for a reason.”
๐ป You just want to breathe.
๐ป You just want stability.
But here is what I know now.
Sometimes we hit rock bottom so that we can accept help.
Sometimes we have to be brought back to a place of love and support in order to build something better.
Sometimes, collapse is not punishment. It is redirection.
And here is something else I have learned through my own journey and through working with hundreds of people in Quantum Human Design and soul-led coaching.
When something in your life is not aligned with who you truly are, your body knows. Your energy knows. Your nervous system knows.
๐ป Sometimes that misalignment shows up as burnout.
๐ป Sometimes as repeated illness.
๐ป Sometimes as redundancy.
๐ป Sometimes as a quiet, persistent sense of “this is not it.”
It is not a judgement. It is information.
The Universe is not asking us to merely survive. It is not asking us to shrink, scrape by, or build lives that exhaust us.
It is asking us to stand in our uniqueness.
๐ป To build on truth.
๐ป To build on love.
And right now, collectively, we are standing at one of those moments.
The Spiritual Meaning of Rock Bottom in a New Era

On 20 February 2026, Saturn and Neptune meet at nought degrees of Aries in Tropical Western astrology. This is known as the World Point. It marks the beginning of a new 36-year cycle for humanity. A reset at the very first degree of the zodiac. A powerful point of initiation.
Some astrologers believe this exact conjunction at nought degrees of Aries has not happened for around 9,000 years, around 7,000 BC. Others suggest slightly less, but still thousands of years. Either way, it is exceptionally rare.
When this alignment occurred in ancient times, it coincided with the birth of agriculture and human settlement. A shift from wandering to rooting. From instability to foundation.
We are at another beginning.
Pluto is also active in this wider cycle, bringing themes of power, technology, AI, the voice of the people, and systemic transformation. As British astrologer Pam Gregory has said, astrology right now is off the rails. We are witnessing combinations we have not seen before.
So the question becomes this.
What are we going to create?

Not just globally but personally. We are stepping out like the Fool in the Tarot on a new journey.
These world cycles ripple through our own lives.
๐ป Where are your foundations not built on truth?
๐ป Where have you been surviving rather than living?
๐ป Where might life be asking you to rebuild?
If you are in a collapsing season right now, I want you to hear this gently.
๐ป There is hope.
๐ป There is support.
And this may be the moment that sets you on an entirely different trajectory.
You may not see it yet.
But one day, you might look back and say, “Thank God that happened.”
And you might smile at how far you have come from your own version of 13 bin bags and a budgie.
